Painting of the Fury Bridge over the Yulong River in Yangshuo, Guangxi (China)

The grass path
the secluded forest
the new leaves are tender
The morning cocks are singing
Orioles resonate

Water state of the Lijiang River
the grotesque peaks are pretty
Scenery of Yangshuo
the emerald mountains lie across

From the poem Scenary of
Yangshou, by Luo Zhihai

Kalepa Bridge in the road to Hana, Maui Island, Hawaii (United States)

Heavenly Hana
Where tropic skies are blue
And angels rendezvous
This is paradise

Your beauty is nature’s jealousy
Caressed in ecstacy
Hana paradise

Bridge in a forest near Winterberg, North Rhine - Westphalia (Germany)

Sauerland, my heart beats for the Sauerland,
bury me on the banks of the Lenne.
Where the dung heaps smoke, there are no palm trees.
Sauerland, my heart beats for the Sauerland,
bury my heart in the Lenne sands,
where the girls are even wilder than the cows.

Chorus of song Sauerland

Saint Paraskevi Bridge across the Pineios River in Tempi Valley, Thessaly (Greece)

The Vale of Tempe was cut through the rocks by the trident of Poseidon. It was home for a time to Aristaeus, son of Apollo and Cyrene, and it was here that he chased Eurydice, wife of Orpheus, who, in her flight, was bitten by a serpent and died.

Bridge over the Olhadobi creek near Larrau, Pyrénées Atlantiques (France)

Urtzi, heavenly light, the creator of storms
The protector of our forebears, now forgotten
Where are you? Where are we?
We’ve been forgotten
Time has devoured everything and withered us away
We’re trapped in its claws; where are our roots?
Amari, I’m calling to you out loud.
Give the people strength
Urtzi, son of Amari
You came to me.

song by Zuberoa Aznárez

Bamboo Bridge over the University Pond in the Xitou Nature Education Area (Taiwan)

It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.

Robert Louis Stevenson

Wooden footbridge near Kuhmo (Finland)

... The night falls upon the forest that weeps
Father of shadows that forever sleeps

I saw the lakes that shimmer
I heard the clanging of the wild rivers
You are the voice that carries throughout the land

I felt the strength of my ancestors
As I walked through the land of the dead
You are the fire that burns forever

In the dark rain the gray mountains sing
A sad song of winter and the howling wind
Visions of the past in the haunting dreams
Under the dead sky, under the withered trees

From the Lyrics of The Forest that Weeps

Ponte Pelvo over the Varaita River near Bellino, Piedmont (Italy)

Vois ces vierges, là-haut, plus blanches que les cygnes,
Assises dans l'azur sur les gradins des cieux !
Viens ! nous invitons l'âme à des fêtes insignes,
Nous, les Alpes, veillant entre l'homme et les dieux.

Des amants indiscrets l'abîme nous protège ;
Notre front n'a rougi qu'aux baisers du soleil,
Et les rosiers du soir sur notre sein de neige
Répandent seuls l'ardeur de l'ambre et du vermeil.

Excerpt from Symphonie Alpestre
Victor de Laprade, 1812-1883

Old Lattice Bridge over the Pemigewassett river near Woodstock, New Hampshire (United States)

I SHUT my eyes in the snow-fall
And dream a dream of the hills.
The sweep of a host of mountains,
Theflash of a hundred rills,
For a moment they crowd my vision;
Then, moving in troops along,
They leave me one still mountain-picture,
The murmur of one river’s song.
’T is the musical Pemigewasset,
That sings to the hemlock-trees
Of the pines on the Profile Mountain,
Of the stony Face that sees

Extract from the poem Pemigewasset, the River
Lucy Larcom

Forestry Commision Bridge crossing the Affric Glen near Cannich, Scotland (United Kingdom)

He who first met the Highlands swelling blue
Will love each peak that shows a kindred hue,
Hail in each crag a friend's familiar face,
And clasp the mountain in his mind's embrace.
Long have I roamed through lands which are not mine.
Adored the Alp and loved the Apennine,
Revered Parnassus and beheld the steep
Jove's Ida and Olympus crown the deep.
But t'was not all long ages' lore, nor all
Their nature held me in their thrilling thrall;
The infant rapture still survived the boy,
And Loch-na-gar with Ida look'd o'er Troy.
...

Kaivannon Bridge in Kangasala (Finland)

Jag gungar i högsta grenen
af Harjulas högsta ås;
vidt skina de blåa vatten,
så långt de af ögat nås.
Af Längelmänvesis fjärdar
där skimrar ett silfverband,
och Roines älskliga vågor
i fjärran kyssa dess strand.

I swing in the highest branch
of Harjula's highest hill;
as far as the eye reaches.
the blue water shines.
From Längelmänvesis Bay
there is a silvery ribbon,
and Roine's lovely waves
 kiss its beach far away.
En sommardag i Kangasala (A summer day in Kangasala)

Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge over the Trent River in Campbellford, Ontario (Canada)

Give us a place to stand
And a place to grow
And call this land Ontario.
A place to live
For you and me
With hopes as high
As the tallest tree.
Give us a land of lakes
and a land of snow
And we will build Ontario
A place to stand, a place to grow
Ontari-ari-ari-o !

A place to stand
Ontario unofficial anthem

Shinkyo Sacred Bridge over the river Daiya in the Futurasan Shrine, Nikko (Japan)

A priest named Shōdō and his followers climbed Mt. Nantai in the year 766 to pray for national prosperity. However, they could not cross the fast flowing Daiya River. Shōdō prayed and a 10 foot tall god named Jinja-Daiou appeared with two snakes twisted around his right arm. Jinja-Daiou released the blue and red snakes and they transformed themselves into a rainbow-like bridge covered with sedge, which Shōdō and his followers could use to cross the river. That is why this bridge is sometimes called Yamasugeno-jabashi, which means the "Snake Bridge of Sedge"

Pony Bridge over the Quinault River in the Olympic National Park, Washington (United States)

Located in the north-west of Washington State, Olympic National Park is renowned for the diversity of its ecosystems. Glacier-clad peaks interspersed with extensive alpine meadows are surrounded by an extensive old growth forest, among which is the best example of intact and protected temperate rainforest in the Pacific Northwest. Eleven major river systems drain the Olympic mountains, offering some of the best habitat for anadromous fish species in the country.

Suspension Bridge of Niskakoski over the Kitkajoki River in the Oulanka National Park, Kuusamo (Finland)

 Under sleepy branches
a strange light shines,
in the forest a magic path
   comes from nowhere, leads nowhere.
My shadow fled, I am
without body. disolved in moonlight.
My step remains suspended in mid-air,
   My hand touches emptiness.

Lions Gate Bridge over the Burrard Inlet in Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada)

Lyrics of Vancouver
Veronique Sanson
