Bridge over the Luostojoki River near Karesuando, Lapland (Sweden)

Bro bro breja
Stockar och stenar
Alla goda renar!
Ingen slipper här fram, här fram,
Innan han säger sin kärastes namn.
Vad heter hon?
Broad bridge, bridge,
Stocks and stones
All good roadsides!
No one will be allowed to pass by, pass by
Before saying his dearest's name.
What is her name?

Bridge over the Oresund strait between Malmoe (Sweden) and Copenhagen (Denmark)

Driving slowly to the bridge
With nothing left that we can give
We smile at this ugly world
It never really suited you
Old songs leave long shadows
Makes you shut down all your emotions
Money needs money, and slums need the poor
Curled like an animal lying on the floor
Curled like an animal lying on the floor

Song Walk me to the bridge,
by Manic Street Preachers inspired in this bridge

Tjörn Bridge over the Askero Fjord between Tjörn Island and Stenungsund (Sweden)

Strange fishes glide in the depths,
unfamiliar flowers glow on the shore;
I have seen red and yellow and all the other colours,
but the gaudy gay sea is the most dangerous to look upon,
it makes one thirsty and wide-awake for waiting adventures:
what happened in the fairy-tale will happen also to me!

Old Almö Bridge over the Askerö fjord between Stenungsund and Tjörn island (Sweden)

It is a black January night in 1980 and the water is mirror-like. The cargo ship Star Clipper steams across the Askeröfjorden, on its way to Uddevalla. In the distance, the lanterns on the bridge between the mainland and Tjörn can be seen, reflecting in the water. Eternity-long minutes later, a violent roar echoes and propagates across land as the lifting cranes aboard the Star Clipper ram the arch structure that holds the bridge up. Seconds later, the entire bridge has collapsed and the roadway lies like a strand of spaghetti over the swamped boat.

Alvsborgs Bridge across the Göta River in Gothenburg (Sweden)

Walk up to the hill, there is someone I like
He has those wrinkles
close to his eyes
But they´re not from crying,
he laughs more than I
Did not think I liked this city
Thought I, thought I hated this city but
Gothenburg I came back to you
Now you be nice to me,
then I'll be nice to you
Gothenburg I thank you
You gave me someone to love,
and I really owe you

Djugardsbron between the island of Djugarden and central Stockholm (Sweden)

"I was glad that you could catch a glimpse of life on Djurgården, that you could see how the majesty of the oak trees depends on people playing and moving about beneath them."

Vasabron (Vasa Bridge) over the Norrström in Stockholm (Sweden)

Solljuset stiger ur havet,
spelar i koppar och glas,
Stockholm i gryningen strålar
som var hon en gyllene vas,
med blommor från Östersjöns stränder,
med ängsört från ekarnas sal,
en skönhet på urbergets stränder,
Mälarens ljuva vestal.
Sunlight rises from the sea
Plays in rates and glasses
In rays of dawn
Stockholm was a gold vase
With assorted flowers of the sea beaches
Baltic oak room
Beauty on the crystalline bedrock shores

Lyrics from Stockholm i mitt hjärta (My Dear Stockholm)
Laase Berghaghen

Strömbron over Norroström in Stockholm (Sweden)

”Gamla stad
du är som en gammal kvinna:
dina minnen är hela din skönhet.
Gamla stad
du har blivit en lumpsamlerska,
en ynklig moder för de utstötta”.

Erik Akslund

Skeppsholmbron joining Skeppsholmen with Blasieholmen in Stockholm (Sweden)

When the town Sigtuna was destroyed by the Estonians, the citizens hid their things of great value in a hollow log and threw it in lake Mälaren. The log (called stock in Swedish) floated ashore at the island (holm) in question, and the homeless Sigtuna citizens thought this was the perfect place to settle down.

Bridge over the Oresund strait between Malmö (Sweden) and Copenhagen (Denmark)

To forget swearing and cursing
And drink a toast to each other
So that They and We are becoming Us
That's better than fighting

Norrbro (North Bridge) over Norrström in Stockholm (Sweden)

Here is the north, here is Stockholm
swimming palaces and hovels.
The logs in the royal fireplace
collapse from Attention to At Ease.
Peace prevails, vaccine and potatoes,
but the city wells breathe heavily.
Privy barrels in sedan chairs like paschas
are carried by night over the North Bridge.

Vasterbron (Western Bridge) over Lake Malaren in Stockholm (Sweden)

Västerbron I hate walking on you
It's six in the morning you make me think of falling
Västerbron you show me such great heights
I'm out of my mind you make me think that I could fly if I tried

Song by band Laakso
