The Malniu Lake, near Guils de Cerdanya, was a meeting for witches to invoke the devil. It is said that witches came here flying with their brooms.On the Holy Friday night one can see an image of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at the bottom of the waters of the lake.

Pont de la Farga Bella (Bridge of the Beautiful Fork) over the Llobregat River in Castellar n’Hug, Girona (Spain)

Hug de Mataplana, lord of Castellar, got married with a proud and arrrogant lady. Rumors spread that Mrs. Hug was a malignant witch. Under her influence, Mr. Hug soon got sick and died, not knowing the daughter his wife expected. Later, the baby was born, so ugly that it was scary to see. "My daughter must be the most beautiful of these lands" the lady thought.  Full of envy she made all the girls born disappear by throwing them into the bottom of a cave. The witch visited often the cave pleased and satisfied, but one day she slipped and ended up at the bottom of the cave. But, as if the depths of the earth did not want to keep so malignant lady, a river of water emerged from the cave, expelling the corpse of the witch. It is said that from this fact the Llobregat River was born, and its waters are the tears the poor babies.

Puente de Piedra (Stone Bridge) over the Onyar River in Girona (Spain)

Sota del pont camina l'aigua trista
és l'aigua de la pluja de Tots Sants;
el cel és malva i rosa i ametista,

i l'àngel guaita la caputxa pia
de Sant Feliu una miqueta enllà.

Sant Feliu Footbridge crossing the Onyar River in Girona (Spain)

És la cosa més bella de Girona;
Sota del cel -sota d'un cel de lona-;
I, tot passant, reposarem el rem,
Reposarem el rem, o l'alçarem
Fent d'ell i de l'anhel una bandera.

Old Bridge across the Fluviá River in Besalu, Girona (Spain)

Pont Vell (Old Bridge) over the Fluviá River in Besalu, Girona (Spain)

An autumn in Besalú a big storm was unleashed. It lasted days and nights . The immense flood cut down the village in two. Since then, the water always run down the valley. And with the flood also came a rather rare bird. Many families were separated by the new stream of water. Then, the people of the town decided to build a bridge. They chose a nearby quarry, but every time they wanted to start hitting the stone, the rare beast flew around their heads emitting a very unpleasant sound . They decided to hunt the bird with traps, but the beast was not easy to be captured. Until a young man realized that the bird was trying to guide them to the best stones. Guided by the bird, the bridge soon took shape and when the bridge was completed, the bird disappeared forever.

Pont Nou (New Bridge) over the River Ter in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, Girona (spain)

Stone Bridge over the Onyar River in Girona (Spain)

I tornaré a Girona
Quan bufi tramontana
Per perdre’m en silenci
Pels vells carrers que enyoro.

I tornaré a Girona
Sense esperar que em cridin
Amb tremolor a les cames
I els ulls oberts com llunes.

Serà un dia de somni
Quan tornaré a Girona

Aqueduct of Estimariu in Ripoll, Girona (Spain)

Pont Nou (New Bridge) over the River Ter in Camprodon, Girona (Spain)

Abocat en el pedrís,
he escoltat l’encís de l’aigua.
Era un paisatge d’estiu,
era una ampla raconada;
una alzina ben ombrívola
en ella s’emmirallava.
I l’aigua era un sot de llum
torbat per bromes nimbades
per l’encís d’un cel ponent
i pel blau verd de muntanya.
Fins aquest núvol rogent
i aquest ocelló que passa
i aquest to difuminat,
hi és per completar el paisatge.
Quins capvespres vora el Ter!
Quines belles raconades!
