Pont au Change across the Seine River in Paris (France)

Homes reach the stars, the sky's below,
The land in smoke to it is near.
Inside the big and happy Paris
Remains the secretive despair.

The evening boulevards are noisy,
Gone are the sundown's final rays,
And there are couples everywhere
Trembling of lips, daring of eyes.

Ponte Umberto over the Tiber River in Rome (Italy)

“There’s one thing that I like about Rome that was stated by Napoleon: that from sublime to pathetic is only one step away. And in Rome there’s a constant shifting between sublime and pathetic.”

Paolo Sorrentino

Adolphe Bridge over the Petrusse River in Luxembourg

The Old City of Luxembourg is located at the confluence of the Alzette and Pétrusse Rivers, on a very steep rocky outcrop which is somewhat of a natural fortification that only needed to be completed on the west side. Due to its exceptional strategic position, the City of Luxembourg was one of the largest fortresses of modern Europe which was constantly strengthened and reinforced as it passed successively into the hands of the great European power.

Pont Saint-Pierre across the Garonne River in Toulouse (France)

Moi mon Océan
C'est une Garonne
Qui s'écoule comme
Un tapis roulant

Moi mon Océan
C'est une Garonne
La grande personne
Dont je suis l'enfant

O'Donovan Rossa Bridge over the Liffey River in Dublin (Ireland)

They think that they have pacified Ireland. They think that they have purchased half of us and intimidated the other half. They think that they have foreseen everything, think that they have provided against everything; but the fools, the fools, the fools! - they have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace.

Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa

Harbour Bridge spanning the Parramatta River in Sydney (Australia)

In her grey majesty of ancient stone
She queens it proudly, though the sun's caress
Her piteous cheeks, ravished of bloom, confess,
And her dark eyes his bridegroom glance have know.
Robed in her flowing parks, serene, alone,
She fronts the east; and with the tropic stress
Her smooth brow ripples into weariness;
Yet hers the sea for footstool, and for throne
A continent predestined. Round her trails
The turbid squalor of her streets, and dim
Into the dark heat-haze her domes flow up;
Her long lean fingers, with their grey-old nails,
Giving her thirsty lips to the cool brim
Of the bronze beauty of her harbour's cup

Bridge across the Tanjiang River in the Chikan Ancient Town, Guangdong (China)

In the southern land many birds sing;
Of towns and cities half are unwalled.
The country markets are thronged by wild tribes;
The mountain-villages bear river-names.
Poisonous mists rise from the damp sands;
Strange fires gleam through the night-rain.
And none passes but the lonely fisher of pearls
Year by year on his way to the South Sea.

Old Bridge over the Isere River in Moutiers, Savoie (France)

Ah ! cette sœur qui nous est chère,
 De tous nos cœurs nous l’appelons
 Nos coeurs vont où va notre Isère
 Et le penchant de nos vallons

Westminster Bridge over the River Thames in London, England (United Kingdom)

The Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St Margaret’s Church lie next to the River Thames in the heart of London. With their intricate silhouettes, they have symbolised monarchy, religion and power since Edward the Confessor built his palace and church on Thorney Island in the 11th century AD. Changing through the centuries together, they represent the journey from a feudal society to a modern democracy and show the intertwined history of church, monarchy and state.

Bridge at the complex of KazMunaiGas company in Astana (Kazakhstan)

Westminster Bridge over River Thames in London (United Kingdom)

At windows that from Westminster
Look southward to the Lollard's Tower,
She sat, my lovely friend. A blur
Of gilded mist, — ('twas morn's first hour,)-
Made vague the world : and in the gleam
Shivered the half-awakened stream.

Plaza Bridge crossing the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada)

Aye still to eastward, past the shadowy lake
And the long slopes of Rigaud toward the sun,
The mightier stream, thy comrade, waits for thee,
The beryl waters that espouse and take
Thine in thei deep embrace, and bear thee on
In that great bridal journey to the sea.

Westminster Bridge across the River Thames in London (United Kingdom)

Old Thames! thy merry waters run
Gloomily now, without star or sun!
The wind blows o’er thee, wild and loud,
And heaven is in its death-black shroud;
And the rain comes down with all its might,
Darkening the face of the sullen Night.

Pont au Change over the Seine River in Paris (France)

C´est moi l´aveugle du pont-au-Change
J´ai tout paumé dans ma sale vie
Ah ! J´eus beau faire appel aux anges
J´eus beau gueuler, c´était fini
Oui, j´ai gueulé comme un tordu

Oui, j´ai gueulé, j´ peux bien vous l´ dire
J´ vous ai maudits comme un damné
J´ai tout renié dans mon délire

Pilarín Bridge over the Negro River in Luarca, Asturias (Spain)

Luarca.
