A man tried hard to cross the river with his wagon. Among countless difficulties he invoked the devil, fearing losing the burden and his own wagon in the attempt. The devil appeared and made the well-known deal: bridge in exchange for immortal soul. But the deal included a clause that the devil had to finish the bridge before the rooster sang. He hurried the devil to build and the man, seeing that it was evident that the devil was going to win the bet ran to his wagon where he had a cage full of roosters. He pulled them out and started beating them and shaking them, until one of them, frightened, began to cackle. As the devil prepared to lay the last stone, he heard the frightened animal sing and sing.
