Teschin Footbridge (Mother in Law Bridge) in Odessa (Ukraine)

Legend has it that a high-ranking official commissioned the bridge in order to be closer to his mother-in-law’s scrumptious dumplings. A local newlywed superstition requires that the happy couple secure a lock on the bridge’s steel railing and throw away the key. This will ensure a lasting marriage.

Parkovy Bridge over the Dnieper River in Kiev (Ukraine)

When I am dead, bury me
In my beloved Ukraine,
My tomb upon a grave mound high
Amid the spreading plain,
So that the fields, the boundless steppes,
The Dnieper's plunging shore
My eyes could see, my ears could hear
The mighty river roar.

Kiev Metro Bridge over the Dnieper River in Kiev (Ukraine)

The mighty Dnieper roars and bellows,
The wind in anger howls and raves,
Down to the ground it bends the willows,
And mountain-high lifts up the waves.

The pale-faced moon picked out this moment
To peek out from behind a cloud,
Like a canoe upon the ocean
It first tips up, and then dips down.

The cocks don’t crow to wake the morning,
There’s not as yet a sound of man,
The owls in glades call out their warnings,
And ash trees creak and creak again.

Parkovy Bridge over the Dnieper River in Kiev (Ukraine)

Lovely is the Dnieper in tranquil weather when, freely and smoothly, its waters glide through forests and mountains. Not a sound, not a ripple is stirring. You look and cannot tell wether its majestic expanse moves or does not move; and it might be of molten crystal and like a blue road made of mirror, inmensurably broad, endlessly long and twisting about the green world.

Bridge over the Seversky Donets River in Sviatohirsk (Ukraine)

Aspen Tree, your leaves glance white into the dark.
My mother’s hair was never white.
Dandelion, so green is the Ukraine.
My yellow-haired mother did not come home.

Pivdennyi Bridge (Southern Bridge) over the Dnieper in Kiev (Ukraine)

Beautiful ancient sacramental Kyiv, crowned with fruitful gardens, surrounded by my sweet, wonderful, miraculous air, enchanting nights, where mountain sprinkled with bushes, with its harmonious breakages and lifts it my clear and fast Dnipro.

Paton Bridge across the Dnieper River in Kiev (Ukraine)

«Oh, Kyiv city! Beauty! That’s how Laura burning on the mountains! And the Dnipro - indescribable light! Herbs! Hay smells! Slopes!
Valleys! »
