Bridges over the Tweed river in Berwick upon Tweed, England (United Kingdom)

Oh Berwick for me,
Oh Berwick for me,
Sits like a jewel down by the sea,
The pride o’ the North,
So ancient and braw,
Frae the Tyne to the Tweed the best of them all.

Now Berwick’s tradition is ancient and long,
Come sit you a while and I’ll sing you my song,
Every Bounds Day when it comes around,
It’s up on horseback and Riding the Bounds.

Lyrics of Oh Berwick for me

Bridge over the Skipton Canal Basin in Skipton, England (United Kingdom)

Chugging along, singing a song,
What's round the next bend I'll know before long
My hand on the tiller, I'll whistle and sing
Canals of Old England Carry Me On

My boat is a beauty all seventy feet
Straight as an arrow and painted so neat
Her name on the side, a cratch of bright red
Roses and Castles all round my head

At the end of the day, we tie up to rest
Go up to the pub for a pint of the best
I'll get out me squeezebox, sing you this song
Canals of Old England Carry Me On

Paine's Bridge over the Derwent River in Chastworth House, Derbyshare Dales, England (United Kingdom)

Chatsworth! thy stately mansion and the pride
Of thy domain, strange contrast do present
To house and home in many a craggy rent
Of the wild Peak; where new-born waters glide
Through fields whose thrifty occupants abide
As in a dear and chosen banishment,
With every semblance of entire content;
So kind is simple Nature, fairly tried!
Yet he whose heart in childhood gave her troth
To pastoral dales, thin set with modest farms,
May learn, if judgement strengthen with his growth,
That not for Fancy only pomp hath charms;
And, strenuous to protect from lawless harms
The extremes of favoured life, may honour both.

Tower Bridge over the Thames River in London (United Kingdom)

London, dodging the rain with broken umbrellas
London, readind the Times on Saturday picnics
London, counting stars 'till the stars
All were gone

London, so many plans and nothing but time in
London, nothing to fear 'cause nothing could last in London, we grew close we grew scared
I moved on

Exceprt from London,

Tower Bridge over the Thames River in London (United Kingdom)

Here`s fine rosemary, sage and thyme.
Come buy my ground ivy.
Here`s fetherfew, gilliflowers and rue.
Come buy my knotted majorum, ho!
Come buy my mint, my fine greenmint.
Here`s fine lavender for your cloaths.
Here`s parsley and winter=savory,
And hearts-ease, which all do choose.
Here`s balm and hissop, and cinquefoil,
All fine herbs, it is well known.
Let none despise the merry, merry cries
Of famous London-town!

Blackfriars Bridge over the Irwell River in Manchester, England (United Kingdom)

“Manchester is in the south of the north of England. Its spirit has a contrariness in it – a south and north bound up together – at once untamed and unmetropolitan; at the same time, connected and wordly.”

Jeanette Winterson

Clapper Bridge crossing the river Dart in Postbridge, Devon (United Kingdom)

Clappers: quarried flats
laid like tableboards
over stacked supports,
colonised by lichens, moss.

You love the coppery run
of the stream, its scatter of insects
ringed in brightness
the single, slate-finned fish
...

Clapper Bridge over the East Dart River in Postbridge, Dartmoor (United Kingdom)

Too long have I dwelt
In the valley beneath ;
Too long have I felt
The soft summer wind's breath ;
Too long have I lingered
In evergreen bowers,
And drank the air laden
With fragrance of flowers.
They felt the gale smiting
Their brows in its motion ;
They heard the stream fighting
Its way to the ocean.
They saw the rough granite
By thunderbolts riven,
And deemed that the mountains
Were nearest to heaven.
