Bridges in Brandenburg an der Havel (Germany)

Herr von Ribbeck auf Ribbeck im Havelland,
A pear tree stood in his garden,
and when the golden autumn season came
and the pears shone far and wide,
when midday rang from the tower,
von Ribbeck stuffed both his pockets
and came into his clogs
So he called out : " Boy, have a beer?"

Poem by Theodor Fontane

Bridge crossing the Elbe River in Wittenberge, Brandenburg (Germany)

Wir hier an der Elbe Sind zu Haus am selben Fluss
Fahrn hinauf, hinab Fahren hin und her
Und er weiss, wohin er fliessen muss ins grosse Meer

We here on the Elbe. Are at home on the same river Drive up, down Drive back and forth
And he knows where to flow into the big sea

Lyrics from Wir Hier an der Elbe

Footridge on one of the Spreewald Canals near Lübbenau, Brandenburg (Germany)

"The devil plowed the river Spree once. He plowed it with two black oxen and loud roar. That was difficult, because the oxen didn?t move. The devil took his cap and threw it at the oxen. These jumped around and because of that the Spree is so branched out."

Legend about the origin
of Spreewald canals
