Tradition says that when Charles V of Spain, who suffered from gout, was travelling across the mountains to his retreat in Yuste, some locals offered themselves to carry him, towards Cuacos with such care that the emperor was pleasantly surprised When offered payment for the work done, the locals rejected it by saying that sufficient payment already was being honored to carry the king on their shoulders. The emperor insisted, until he was told they would be content with a wine nag (type of jar). The emperor was amused by the occurrence and grant their request, affectionately calling them " the nag ", so they were baptized since then with that nickname.
