Facilitator of many pleasures,
you delightful Alster River!
You enhance Hamburg’s uniqueness
and its happy enjoyments.
To honor you,
you playful stream,
let choirs sing
and jubilant spirits ring forth.
From the Song Die Alster
by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach
