Puente de las Herrerías crossing the Guadalquivir River in the Sierra de Cazorla Natural Park, Jaén (Spain)

According to a local legend, when Isabella I (“Isabella the Catholic”) was travelling from Cordoba to the conquest of Granada in the 15th century, the Guadalquivir river was so swollen that she was unable to cross it. In just one night, her knights built a strong bridge across the river that allowed the Queen to continue on her way to the towns of Baza and Guadix.
