Old Bridge over the Mandeo River in Betanzos (A Coruña)

Legend says that in a past century God wanted to punish the many sins that the Betanzos people had committed, so sent down a rare animal that had the a spider figure with wings and a snake's tail. This bizarre bug, instrument of the divine wrath, caused infinite evils to punish the excesses committed by some God-fearing people, and its ravages came to be known outside the region. Many foreigners came to Betanzos to contemplate such a strange animal. Among those who came was a thoughtful noble knight of Puentedeume, which promised to get rid of this terrible guest. Our hero came to Brigantium and faced the ugly animal in the Caraña bridge. The monster without saying a word attacked the knight with not very good intentions, and the gentleman, used his spear and shoved it through the animal mouth, killing the bug and saving Betanzos of the plague.
